Meadows Jazz Orchestra Fall Concert

Meadows Percussion Ensemble: An Evening of Percussion

The Meadows Percussion Ensemble, directed by Jon D. Lee, will showcase a variety of classic and new percussion works running the gamut from light and fun to dark and intense. The concert will include the premiere of a new marimba quartet by Meadows composition graduate student Alex Shawver. Also featured will be a lively ragtime xylophone solo, a hand-drumming piece by Meadows World Music Ensemble director Jamal Mohamed and other popular works.

Emerging Sounds: New Works by SMU Student Composers

SYZYGY: 24HC

Music so new it was written last night! Meadows’ contemporary music ensemble SYZYGY, directed by Lane Harder, presents 24HC in partnership with the Meadows music composition department. 24HC stands for “24-hour concert,” meaning composers will write music for randomly selected players from within SYZYGY between 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.; the performers will rehearse the work from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and the concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Come have fun at what is sure to be an entertaining evening of diverse approaches to contemporary music from SMU’s student composers.

Meadows Opera Theatre’s Opera Free For All: Bite-Size Arias/Big-Size Talents

The Opera Free For All series’ annual popular opener showcases every member of the Meadows Opera Ensemble in 60-second arias and songs of their choice as they challenge themselves to make a strong, positive and lasting impression and declare, “This is who I am as a singing actor!” in only one minute.
