A central focus of the Pollock Gallery over the last 20 years has been to seek out and disseminate artistic/historical resources that have considerable aesthetic and cultural value. Providing access to the rich resources afforded by private collections gives students and the public the opportunity to see and study little-known treasures. Much notable art in America remains underappreciated and obscure. This exhibition brings together a number of rarely seen, masterful works by such artists as James Castle, Frank Jones, Bill Traylor and Chelo González Amezcua, among others. The exhibition is co-curated with Murray Smithers, a nationally respected advocate and authority on self-taught artists and their work.
