Meadows Symphony Orchestra: Koch, Kancheli, Dvorak and Janacek

The concert opens with two short contemporary works: Danish composer Jesper Koch’s 1997 tone poem Alice under Skies, inspired by Alice in Wonderland, and Giya Kancheli’s Nu.Mu.Zu (2015), which expresses the composer’s hopes for a world without violence. Dvorak’s elegant Romance for Violin follows, with featured soloist Diane Kitzman, faculty member and principal first violin of the Dallas Symphony. The program concludes with Leos Janacek’s expressive, festive Sinfonietta, a 1926 work that begins and ends with fanfares for brass instruments.
