For this concert, Engels will perform Deuxième Fantaisie JA 117 by Jehan Alain; Tiento de medio registro de dos tiples de Segundo Tono by Francisco Correa de Arauxo; Capriccio sopra la bassa fiamenga by Girolamo Frescobaldi; Passacaglia et thema fugatum BWV 582 by J.S. Bach; Kairos by Pamela Decker; and two works by Sigfrid Karg-Elert, Ave Maria from Cathedral Windows Op. 86 No. 2 and Choral-Improvisation In dulci Jubilo Op. 75 No. 2.
Stefan Engels is professor of organ at one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious musical institutions, the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig, Germany, and is the founder and artistic director of the European Organ Academy Leipzig. Winner of the “Concerto Gold Medal” at the 1998 Calgary International Organ Competition, he maintains a busy international concert schedule with performances from London to Vienna to Seoul. He has also recorded two highly acclaimed CDs on the Naxos and Priory labels.
