U.S./Russian Guest Panel Discussion: “Finding a Way: The Soft Diplomacy of Art Exchanges Between Russia and the United States”

This program will explore the politics of international cultural exchange since the 2011 moratorium on loans of art objects between Russian, government-owned museums and institutions in the United States. The program will begin with a conversation between art museum directors Mikhail Piotrovsky of the State Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg, Russia, and Glenn Lowry of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, followed by a discussion between diplomatic officials from Russia and the United States. Daniel T. Orlovsky, Professor and George Bouhe Research Fellow in Russian Studies, SMU Dedman College of Humanities & Sciences, will moderate both conversations.

The program will conclude with an audience Q&A. This program is organized by the John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies at SMU, in collaboration with the Association of Art Museum Directors and the Meadows Museum.
