Texas Senate Debate Watch Party and Public Debate

Event will take place at Fondren Library, 6414 Hyer Lane

Update 9/20: The Debate watch party will take place at Fondren Library, 6414 Hyer Lane.

Director of Debate Dr. Ben Voth will provide the following events relating to the Ted Cruz/ Beto O'Rourke debate on SMU's campus Friday night:

1. 5 p.m. - Dr. Voth will offer a pre-lecture about the debate and what to expect from the two candidates and the media covering and moderating the event. Dr. Voth publishes extensively on political debates and has published several articles about political debates in academic and general press outlets.

2. 6 p.m. - Dr. Voth will make available through the internet a watch party using the large main screen in 241 ULEE. Students can watch the debate in this auditorium setting with other students and community members.

3. 7:15 - 8:30 p.m. - Dr. Voth will moderate a public debate among students and community members about who won the debate between Cruz and O'Rourke. Media may be in attendance and are welcome to attend all events. Media are also allowed to interview students if they wish. SMU debate will collect a vote among those attending about who they thought won the debate and publish the results through their social media.
