Sound and Society: What 'The Brain on Music' Tells Us About Social Cognition and Empathy

Presented by Dr. Zachary Wallmark and sponsored by Digital Humanities Group @ SMU.
This talk will take a contemporary look at a topic as old as Plato-the power of music to affect behavioral and emotional changes and, in turn, social organization. Combining tools from humanistic music studies with digitally and empirically informed perspectives from the cognitive sciences, Dr. Wallmark will present results from neuroimaging and behavioral experiments exploring the links between music perception and social empathy.
