The MSO presents two powerful scores, beginning with Ernest Bloch’s tumultuous Schelomo, a Hebraic rhapsody exploring the lamentations and trials of King Solomon, featuring Meadows faculty member and Dallas Symphony Orchestra principal cellist Christopher Adkins. It’s followed by the daringly modern Symphony No. 4 by Dmitri Shostakovich, originally composed in 1936 but not performed publicly until 1961 due to threat of repercussion by Stalin, who denounced Shostakovich as a creator of “chaos instead of music.”
