Zine Making Workshop With Puro Chingón Collective

Learn to make a zine with Puro Chingón Collective! Artists Claudia Zapata and James Huizar will give a brief presentation about their work and publication ChingoZine and lead participants in making their own zines. Supplies will be provided. Drop-ins welcome! This event is presented in connection with the exhibition “Collective Practice: Community Building Through Zines,” on exhibit October 20-December 17 in the Hawn Gallery of the Hamon Arts Library. The workshop is in partnership with DIG Makerspace and the Hawn Gallery.

Acknowledging that every museum visitor possesses a unique set of interests and abilities, this program offers participants multiple ways to engage with and discover works of art. Through a variety of multi-sensory, interdisciplinary activities, participants will enjoy an in-depth exploration of the Cubist paintings of Pablo Picasso and Diego Rivera. The program is designed for adults and students, ages 15 and older. It will be presented by Carmen Smith, professor in the Doctor of Liberal Studies program at SMU.

Meadows Museum Family Day

In conjunction with SMU’s Founders’ Day Weekend, the Meadows Museum offers free admission from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Family Day. Visitors of all ages can explore the artist’s process from drawing to painting and printmaking through the museum’s special exhibition of the works of Jusepe de Ribera. Activities will include sketching in the galleries, printmaking, and sensory approaches engaging visitors through sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. The program will include special entertainment, activities, refreshments and more.

This informal three-day program is designed for individuals with early stage dementia and their care partners and family members. Participants will explore the galleries through interactive activities, experiment with different materials to create individual and group projects, and discover works of art through music, dance, literature, storytelling and role play.  Light refreshments will be served. Drawing From the Masters

Where: 

Enjoy afternoons of informal drawing instruction as artist Ian O’Brien leads participants through the Meadows Museum’s galleries.  Each session will provide an opportunity to explore a variety of techniques and improve drawing skills. Designed for adults and students ages 15 and older, and open to all abilities and experience levels. Drawing materials will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own sketchpads and pencils. Attendance is limited to 20 and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

FREE with museum admission: $12 for adults; $8 for seniors; $4 for non-SMU students; FREE for members, children under 12, SMU students, faculty and staff
