Exclusively for current SMU students, this Surreal soiree will explore the mini masterpieces of Salvador Dalí in a special after-hours event! Show your SMU student ID for FREE admission to view the exhibition "Dalí: Poetics of the Small, 1929–1936" and enjoy the fun:

Interactive Installation Game: The Tender Cut
Dive into a surreal dream where emotions overlap each other. Tender Cut is a virtual exploration game inspired by the first scene of "Un Chien Andalou," the 1929 film on view in Smith Auditorium.

Get creative in the galleries with artist and educator Joel Murray, whose art involves fictional characters and ridiculous happenings.

Short Films: "Un Chien Andalou" & "Destino"
Sit back and enjoy Dalí on the big screen. His collaborative films—"Un Chien Andalou" (1929) and "Destino" (2003)—play all night in Smith Auditorium.

Rafael Azcona’s "The Executioner"

Film Screening with Susan Azcona

The Meadows Museum, in collaboration with The Wild Detectives bookstore in Oak Cliff, commemorates the 10th anniversary of the death of award-winning screenwriter Rafael Azcona with a special screening of his black humor masterpiece El Verdugo (The Executioner), presented in Spanish with English subtitles. Azcona is considered to be the most important screenwriter in Spanish film, having won five Goya Awards. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Susan Azcona, who will be in attendance to discuss her husband’s legacy.

Surrealist Collaborations: Salvador Dalí and Luis Buñuel

Rick Worland, Professor of Film and Media Arts, SMU Meadows School of the Arts

Working in France, Salvador Dali collaborated with his fellow Spaniard and surrealist filmmaker Luis Buñuel for two memorable milestones of avant-garde cinema: Un Chien Andalou (1929) and L’Age d’Or (1930). This program will feature a screening of both films along with a discussion of the works by Worland.
