Praised by The New York Times for his “Lisztian thunder and deft fluidity,” and the San Francisco Chronicle as “ferociously virtuosic,” pianist Paul Barnes has electrified audiences worldwide with his intensely expressive playing and cutting-edge programming. Barnes has recorded 12 CDs and this year celebrates his 23-year collaboration with Philip Glass. Inspired by the untimely passing of many of his closest friends, Dr. Barnes will explore the profound musical treatment of love and death in the music of Glass, Franz Liszt and ancient Byzantine chant.

Andrey Ponochevny: Guest Piano Recital

Internationally recognized pianist and Meadows alumnus Andrey Ponochevny will perform the last three piano sonatas of Beethoven. Ponochevny has performed throughout North America, Europe and Asia, playing with numerous major orchestras and given solo recitals at such venues as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Salle Alfred Cortot in Paris and the National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw, among others. His awards include first prize at both the William Kapell and Tomassoni international piano competitions and a bronze medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
